ABOUT US
HISTORY
Since being established in 2016, Texas Tech Polo Alumni Association has been known for its unparalleled commitment to our alumni and our club members. It’s this standard of excellence that has provided the guidance for students to strive for honor and excellence in everything they do.
The club's long history, of over 30 years, having moved from many different locations has landed us to the grounds we sit on today. We are grateful for all who have come on the journey helping to make the club and the alumni association what it is today.
OUR MISSION
Bring stability to the Texas Tech Polo Club and ensure its competitiveness. Actively engage alumni and grow the sport of polo in Texas.
CLYDE
On September 13, 2016, our club mourned the loss of a great leader, Clyde Waddell Jr., and a major supporter of the club and the Intercollegiate/Interscholastic program with the United States Polo Association.
He began his journey with us in 1999 by boarding our horses at his farm, which the property currently sits on, then turned into full-time coaching and traveling. His love for the Texas Tech Polo Club carried on until his last days.
The alumni and the club were so blessed to have him be a part of our story as we continue his legacy. We will always remember our number one fan shouting “Battle Speed”.
Clyde was awarded the USPA Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.
ASHLEY
As 2020 began and COVID-19 loomed creating a time of uncertainty within our nation and the club, our alumni Ashely Owen, along with her father Denny Yates, decided to step in and take on becoming a property owner and coach for the club. They made it their mission to carry on the mission of Clyde.
Ashley led the Women's Team to Nationals in 2022 and we are so grateful to have her and her father as a part of our story. Having opened arms to all members who seek to learn she wants to help grow the polo world. We thank her for her tireless dedication as the TTPAA and club embark on a new future.
ALUMNI
Our alumni network is comprised of many individuals who are still a part of the polo community across the country. Being part of the club for their undergraduate and graduate years many wish for future generations to enjoy the same experiences.
The alumni work with the students in the club to guide them towards excellence. Working tirelessly to make sure the club is cared for and protected from whatever may come its way. We are responsible for our four-legged friends taking the most extreme care and diligence that they are well proved for.
The alumni and committee members are a huge part of our story, so thank you to all who have made this possible!
THE CLUB
The club is alive and well - going on 30 years now. We are so excited every semester to welcome new club members into our community. Every semester, club members get together and play in club chukkars, attend banquets, travel for tournaments, gather to enjoy bonfires, and more.
The club welcomes all levels of undergrad and graduate students to the club. No prior horse background is needed to enjoy the love of horses the great sport of polo!
